The development of a procurement organization should not be seen as a one-time event or a series of independent efforts, but as a carefully coordinated set of interdependent initiatives, each contributing to the company’s vision of establishing a leading procurement organization.

For the financial services company featured in this case study, the initial stage of the transformation effort focused primarily on key strategy and policy development, procurement process design and organizational structure.

The core technology solution in this case played a key role as a focal point of the transformation but was not a driver; it was an enabler. "Standing up" the organization was the first act, not the finale.
