M&A Spotlight | March 2013

India presents global acquirers with substantial growth opportunities. The Indian government and the Reserve Bank of India have made investment more attractive with a series of policy initiatives that ease restrictions in the multi-brand retail, insurance, pension and aviation sectors. Inbound deal value, which decreased in 2012, is expected to rebound.

This article recommends thorough pre-deal assessment and validation of the market opportunity and competitor landscape as critical steps toward avoiding common pitfalls faced by foreign acquirers. It also stresses the importance of understanding the potential integration risks and post-deal issues during the due diligence process, including cultural, operational, environmental and labor issues.
