From the Financial Reporting Network
The SEC recently issued an order that permits but does not require a company to voluntarily file eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) structured financial statement data in a format known as Inline XBRL through March 2020. Inline XBRL allows a company to embed XBRL data directly into an HTML document that is part of a filing, including annual and quarterly reports. Companies currently must provide XBRL structured data as an exhibit to their filings.
The EDGAR system has been upgraded to accommodate Inline XBRL. An updated EDGAR Filer Manual provides the technical requirements needed for filers to begin using Inline XBRL.
