An article from Federal News Radio featuring Jeffrey Steinhoff, Executive Director of the KPMG Government Institute.

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) released major revisions to the book titled, “Standards for Internal Control in the Federal Government,” for the first time since 1999. The revised Green Book provides more detail on internal control for managers to use on a daily basis.

The updated Green Book could be a "wake-up call" for managers that do not have effective controls in place especially due to the recent scandals that have plagued some government agencies says Jeffrey Steinhoff. In guarding against the kind of scandals that have befallen some agencies, you can go overboard in implementing controls, Steinhoff cautioned.
