Sharing data for better healthcare

Jun 27, 2016
From the Government Institute

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued new guidance on February 29, 2016 to expand use of Medicaid funding for Health Information Exchange. Data is the foundation of patient care and of the business of managing healthcare. CMS’s new guidance provides states with an important opportunity to leverage enhanced federal funding to help achieve the goals of increasing interoperability and data sharing, and supporting the meaningful use of EHRs by Eligible Providers.

This issue brief provides an overview of the guidance, and discusses why this expanded funding gives states an important new tool to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare across a more comprehensive array of health services.
