Over the last two decades, many industries have changed their value proposition by developing their customers' capacity to create value. Healthcare is only just understanding how this might transform its own value proposition.
Healthcare has missed out mainly because it has seen patient involvement in their own care as a moral rather than an economic issue. Patient contribution, patient interactions and patient capacity are key to service design and effective value-added patient engagement that requires support by the healthcare workforce, payment systems and treatment pathways.
