On May 4, 2017, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the American Health Care Act of 2017 (the “AHCA”). The AHCA is styled as a budget reconciliation bill, which may only address matters related to spending, tax revenue, and the debt ceiling. These changes, if enacted, could potentially have significant consequences for individuals, employers, healthcare organizations, and taxpayers generally. This article explains the proposed legislation by answering some questions about the bill and comparing it to an earlier proposal.
