From the Advice Worth Keeping podcast series
Hosted by Stan Lepeak, global research director,
KPMG LLP Management Consulting

Anshul Varma, a director in KPMG's Shared Services and Outsourcing Advisory group, explains risk from a three-dimensional view as it relates to GBS operations.

The first dimension involves the various phases of risk across the GBS life cycle: risk as it relates to strategy, design, transition, delivery and optimization.

The second dimension addresses risk associated with people and process. The third dimension looks at risk across six categories: 1) business decisions; 2) operations; 3) finance; 4) compliance; 5) technology; and 6) reputation.

Listeners will gain an understanding of:

  • A three-dimensional view of risk and the significant impact it has on GBS structures
  • The most overlooked area of risk
  • How inadequate resourcing can wreak havoc at multiple points: from transition to stabilization to optimization
  • Why risk management is everyone's responsibility (and is measured at the individual level), as well as the responsibility of a highly specialized, expert risk organization
  • Identification of the risk elements that are increased as firms become more global in their GBS efforts
